John Caudwell, the billionnaire founder of Phones4U, has revealed that eleven members of his family have now been diagnosed with the potentially crippling Lyme disease.

He accused NHS and the Government of ‘negligence’ in failing to properly investigate what he considers to be a public health scandal and has called for further research into the illness.

The 63-year-old tycoon is convinced that the bacterial infection is not solely caught by ticks but can be passed to a baby during pregnancy or to an adult by sexual contact, lying dormant inside the body for years before attacking.
